"Martha's husband, Giles, was also accused of witchcraft. He refused to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty and under church law was tortured by having heavy rocks placed on him until a plea was obtained. Giles refused to talk throughout the ordeal and died. This was on September 19, two days before his wife's execution."
